Bit of an exaggeration perhaps. But it is fair to say that law pass rates are mixed at best.
The SRA has just released its annual quality assurance report which shows the LPC and GDL pass rates at different law schools. Pass rates differ hugely between law schools.
Over the 2018 academic year, the pass rate for the GDL fell from 64% to just 60%.
Meanwhile, the LPC pass rate fell from 66% to 56%.
The pass rates are even worse (and falling) for ethnic minority students too.
And the worst-performing law school had a pass rate of just 29% - meaning 71% of its students failed the LPC.
The SRA hasn’t named the offending law schools, but if you’re concerned by these results we recommend that you take a look at our GDL Answered and LPC Answered guides. Our guides are aimed at a wide range of law schools and written by top students and qualified lawyers. They should help you be in the 29% (or more!) cohort that passes!
Another way of improving your chances is practising your writing skills. Our friends at The Student Lawyer offer a platform for students to publish articles on everything from the latest case law to exam revision tips.
