GDL Answered - Core Guide
GDL Answered - Core Guide
Our GDL Answered Core Guide 12th edition covers the compulsory modules of the GDL. Designed to be as relevant to as many law schools as possible, our notes explain core legal concepts clearly and concisely so that you can smash your exams.
This edition has recently been updated for the 2023-24 academic year.
Our GDL Core Guide tells you EXACTLY what you need to know to smash your exams, without all the additional waffle that lecturers throw at you. Our guide breaks down key concepts into bite-sized, easy to understand chunks. We use tables, diagrams, and flowcharts to help you understand the law more quickly AND we do it in the way you need for your exams.
Fully updated for the 2023-24 academic year in summer 2023, this is a MUST HAVE guide for all GDL students.
About
Examiners want you to answer questions in a certain manner – but other textbooks and manuals only tell you the law, rather than showing you how to apply it for exam success. That’s why our Core Guide includes structured answers that take you through the law and show you how to apply it, step-by-step, to problem questions, so you are 100% ready for your exams.
Our 12th edition of the GDL Answered Core Guide has been comprehensively updated by qualified solicitors with new chapters, fresh cases, and feedback from students at law schools such as BPP and ULaw.
Topics Covered
Our GDL Answered Core Guide is a set of notes for all seven of the substantive law conversion course subjects:
Contract Law
Tort Law
Criminal Law
Equity and Trusts
Land Law
Public/Constitutional and Administrative Law
EU Law
Topics are addressed as template answers to “problem questions” to match the format in which the GDL is typically examined. You can find a detailed list of topics covered here.
Which version should I buy?
We know that everyone learns differently, which is why we have created different ways for you to use our guides:
Our printed guide is our original printed book. All topics are printed in grey scale, with full colour covers to protect your guide, and thick card tabs to help you quickly navigate between topics. Our printed guides use a wiro binding to ensure that your guide sits flat on the table. This is perfect for students that like to have an actual book to take to lectures, make notes in, and tab up for your exams.
Our loose-leaf guide comes pre-hole punched (4 holes), ready for you to place directly into your own folder. If you like to create your own notes, but don’t have the time to copy out large sections of textbook (who does, right?!)… this is PERFECT for you! The hole punched guide allows you to integrate your notes directly into your own notes and gives you the flexibility to re-order our subjects to suit your personal needs. Please note that this version does not include tabs or covers.
Our MyLiveBook Interactive e-Book allows you to access your guide directly from your laptop, phone, or tablet. You can highlight, annotate, add photos and search your guide both online and offline. Links within the book allow you to quickly jump between topics. This is perfect for students that like to work on one (or multiple) devices rather than on paper, or for those that like to work on the go.
The blended learning pack is our creme-de-la-creme way to learn! This includes both a wiro-bounded printed guide OR loose-leaf guide sent direct to your house, and immediate online access via our MyLiveBook Interactive e-Book! The ultimate way to ensure that you always have access to your notes, whether sat at your desk, or on the go!
NOTE: MyLiveBook access will be emailed to you within one hour of your order being placed. Your MyLiveBook access will be valid for 36 months from the date of purchase. Please check our guidance on how to access your code and set up your MyLiveBook access. Please note that you cannot print your MyLiveBook notes out or copy and paste more than 140 characters at a time.
If you are starting your GDL this year, check out our GDL “Smash Your Studies” Bundle. These will include all the notes you need for the year, along with other study aids, and save you £££s on buying our guides separately.
Which guide do I need?
GDL Answered is intended for GDL students looking to get straight to the point. Our notes are designed to help you learn subjects in the manner best applied to answering problem questions. For this reason, we recommend you use GDL Answered notes as a study aid alongside your lectures and own studies. You can find out more about our guides here.
We also have a PGDL Core Guide, and PGDL ULaw Core Guide (coming soon to replace the GDL ULaw Core Guide) for students studying Company law rather than EU law.
Many students it useful to use our GDL Case Book to use alongside our Core Guide. Our Case Book summarises the facts and legal principles of well over 3,000 cases that you will come across in your studies. These are split out into key cases and topics which match the layout of our Core Guide.
If you are looking for study notes which address all of the seven core modules in greater depth than that required for the GDL, using problem questions, essay templates and other approaches, then we recommend you check out our LLB Core Guides.
